Sid Grauman's second theatre in Hollywood opened on May 18, 1927 with Cecil B. DeMille's film "King of Kings." Designed by Meyer & Holler and oriental in its colorful decor. Its forecourt, where movie star hand and footprints are preserved in cement, is a top tourist attraction. Declared: 6/5/68

Designed in 1929 by architect B. Marcus Priteca and interior decorator Anthony Heinsbergen, the theatre is an exceptional example of 1920’s and 1930’s Art Deco architecture. Opened on June 4, 1930 as the last and largest in a chain of theaters operated by vaudeville magnate Alexander Pantages, the interior is considered by many to be the most magnificent example of theater architecture in Los Angeles. Completed in 1926, this six-story reinforced concrete structure, designed by the architectural firm of Morgan, Walls & Clements. Its eclectic cast stone decorations display Churrigueresque, Spanish Renaissance, Moorish, and Gothic details. The shallow auditorium, specifically designed for legitimate drama, places all patrons within hearing distance of the stage. Declared: 1/30/90

Formerly Clune's Broadway. Designed by Alfred F. Rosenheim in a Beaux Arts interpretation of Italian Renaissance style. Constructed in 1910, the Cameo was the longest continually operational movie theater in the state until it closed in the early 1990's. Its builder, William Clune, was one of the pioneers of the film production and distribution industry. Declared: 3/20/91

This terra-cotta-clad building is located on the corner of Broadway and 8th Street. Built in 1927 and designed by noted theater architect S. Charles Lee, it is his first theater design of eclectic style with French elements. It is notable as downtown Los Angeles' first theater built with provisions for sound films. The art-glass window over the entry is notable. Declared: 8/16/89

Designed by Morgan, Walls & Clements, construction of the Pellissier Building began in October 1930. The blue-green, terra cotta-covered tower is described as French Zig-Zag Moderne styling. Its ornate Wiltern Theatre with an interior by G. Albert Landsburgh housed the largest theatre pipe organ in the western United States. Declared: 5/16/73

Raymond Theatre  Est. 1919   National Register 
The Raymond Theatre is a 2,000 seat theater which opened as a vaudeville theater in the 1920's. In the 1950's it became the Crown Theatre, and was one of Pasadena's premier movie theaters. In 1971, it was renamed Perkins Palace and presented some of the top name artists in commercial music until the theater closed for redevelopment in 1990. It is one of three remaining examples of Georgian, Beau-Arts architectural style theaters left in the United States today. The Raymond Theatre is on the National Register of Historic Places and also qualifies as a State of California Landmark.

The La Reina Theatre opened in 1938 and designed by eminent Los Angeles architect S. Charles Lee. The 875-seat theater was a one-story Streamline Moderne building and was the most stylistically sophisticated theater ever built in the San Fernando Valley. In 1987, its interior was gutted for shops and its facade and marquee were preserved and incorporated into the La Reina Fashion Plaza. Declared: 2/15/85
